Each super tournament concludes with a Boss Race, which is a free roam race (with GPS) to capture more of the checkpoint flags than the Boss (2 out of 3, etc.). Besides Career, the game offers Quick Race mode, which allows up to four players on split screens, each with their own map, and the four race types from Career plus a fifth, “Interceptor” (be a cop & bust a speeder).

The cars, purchased with Bounty, improve in speed, acceleration, and strength (D, C, B, A, and S Class cars, plus police vehicles in the Quick Race’s “Interceptor” race). Racers do not have names, just the Career/Profile names. During the race, players can accumulate and use regular nitro and super nitro (more powerful but shorter), similar to Need for Speed: Nitro. Power-ups/”Supes” are acquired while driving: Boost (extra nitro), Drain (others’ nitro), Cruise Control (brief auto-steering), Deflect The Heat (send police after opponents), Jammer (invisibility to police), Tank (resistance to crash damage), Soundwave (circular explosion), and Repair (immediate car restoration). Repair is the most important, as players’ car must be in good repair to accumulate Nitro and be immune from being busted by the cops.

A complex yet extensive range of visual customization options is available, including body kits, wheels, and a full range of colors & vinyls, including freehand drawing ability. The most obvious difference is that the graphics and racing physics in this version are completely different from the other versions, giving it a retro look and feel reminiscent of much older pre-GameCube or Mario Kart type games.

After retrieving the main pieces, the natives, travel to Halcandra as promised by Magolor, where they are attacked and struck down (though this time the ship’s pieces stay intact) by a four-headed dragon named Landia, who rests atop the planet’s highest volcano. Magolor claims Landia is an evil beast that has taken over Halcandra and sends Kirby to defeat it. However, after Landia is defeated, Magolor reveals his true motive was to steal the Master Crown, constructed by a legendary race called the Ancients, as a source of immense power, on his head and become all powerful, with intent of making the entire universe bow before him, beginning with Pop Star. Teaming up with Landia, who is split into four dragons, Kirby and his friends chase Magolor through an interdimensional tunnel to confront him. They destroy the Master Crown and take Magolor’s soul with it (though the Kirby’s 20th anniversary collection reveals that he survived and has reformed). With peace restored to the universe, Kirby and friends flee through the shrinking wormhole back to their home planet, whilst Landia takes the Lor Starcutter and returns home as Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee wave goodbye.

There were no plans for a Premium Box edition of the Xtreme Legends version. Instead, Z had the bonus package. The Treasure Box for Z includes the usual developer commentary and illustration book, a copy of the original soundtrack, and an exclusive daily calendar. This time around like the last Dynasty Warriors 6 Treasure Box release, the illustration book includes a handful of comical illustrations with the cast.

Upon collecting enough Power Stars, the Comet Observatory flies to the center of the universe, where Bowser is holding Peach captive. Mario defeats Bowser and frees Peach from Bowser’s control, but one of the galaxy’s planets collapses on itself, becoming a supermassive black hole that begins consuming everything in the universe. The Lumas sacrifice themselves and jump into the black hole to destroy it. The black hole collapses into a singularity and the universe is recreated entirely as the singularity explodes in a huge supernova. Rosalina appears to Mario, revealing that dying stars are later reborn as new stars. When the universe is recreated, Mario awakens in the restored Mushroom Kingdom alongside Peach and Bowser, and he celebrates the new galaxy that has emerged in the skies.

Fighting enemies, which appear in both the overworld and dungeons, relies on Link’s use of his sword and shield. Link’s sword movements are mapped to the direction the Wii Remote is flicked by the player, and other moves include a forward thrust and a stab.
